Devil Girl reworked

After some awesome color & shading lessons from my internship mentor, Mike, I reworked the devil girl. I look forward to redoing a lot of my work now because my drawing and digital painting skills have definitely upgraded in the past month!

Slender

My drawing for Halloween. I am terrified of Slenderman. Maybe if he had a mustache or something I'd be less freaked out.

derby girl

Wanted to mess around with colors again. Found a photo from the Minnesota Roller Girls and used it as a pose reference.

My dog

My dog- he's beautiful in every way. Overbite, buggy eyes, he's got the looks.

Another doodle- this time I worked with a set color palette.

Korra

Normally I don't draw a lot of fanart, but Korra is so awesome I gave in. The water took me a while, but it was a lot of fun to do.

Mermaid

Quick drawing I did out of boredom. Took maybe 30 minutes at most. I enjoyed scribbling in all the shading and using tons of colors.

Carno WIP 02

WIP 02 of my carnotaurus digital paint. Basically done with the dinosaur now, except that I'll probably go in and add more scale textures. I feel like the head has more detail than the rest of the body.

Currently working away on the background, which has been a challenge. I haven't done a ton of background painting, and getting the level of detail to match the dinosaur is tricky.

Dino Wip

digital painting of a Carnotaurus I'm working on. This is definitely going to end up being one of the most time-consuming things I've done. I've also never gone for this kind of style of digital painting. Understanding the shading has been one of the biggest challenges, as well as avoiding too much desaturation. There is also a huge amount of layers that I'm working with.

Using a bunch of different photo references. Someday I'll finish this.

Print Portfolio Spreads

Oh hey! Totally forgot to post these. These are my current spread designs for my print Portfolio.

Prairie Dog

Took a trip to the zoo with some friends, having the intent to do some life drawings of animals. The end result was zero life drawings, and we stared at prairie dogs for longer than most would. They're so funny when they pop out of their tunnels and yell.

I guess this means I'll have to give life drawings at the zoo another go sometime this summer.

Other than that, I'm getting ready for my final review, 12th level. I'm happy with my website layout, just need to do some tweaking on the demo reel and some small stuff. (Blythedockham.com) I am very excited for my internship if everything works out! September needs to hurry up, even though I will make sure to enjoy my summer. It'll give me some time to learn some new skills to help me with my internship, and I would really like to do a small 2D animated project.

Gunfighter

I guess it's more like, Nerf-Gunfighter.

Cel-shading and anatomy were a struggle this time, and overall I wished I had tried a different style. But I am satisfied with it for now.

Art Birds

Might use these guys for my website, but I'm not sure yet since they don't totally match the style.
They are for my animation, gallery, and contact page respectively.

New version of my demo reel. I'm happier with the music, but hopefully I'll get some different pieces added in by the end of this quarter. Also working on fixing the staging of my reaction animation and giving him a scene to be in.

My Pet Dinosaur

If I had a pet dinosaur it would be the greatest thing ever. I would never have to ride the bus again.

Sharks!

This is the proof of concept scene I did to get a feel for a color palette and shading style.

* responsible for color only

* responsible for everything except lineart on shark

Doing an After Effects animated short on the shark sensory system. Here's some work so far of what I have done for our group final. On a side note, back when I was a kid I thought it would be cool to have a pet shark. That didn't really pan out.

Lumberjack

He doesn't have an ax. Real men punch trees with their fists.

demo reel

The first version of my demo reel is up. blythedockham.com
It needs some reworking, especially as far as displaying illustration, but I'm glad to have it up rather than the place-holder video that was there before.

hooter

So a long time ago I got this awesome cookie jar from http://www.shopplasticland.com/. I love owls even though they're a complete trend right now, and I wanted to draw a quick one for my twitter background.

Stereo Hearts

Revised version of this- I had it posted earlier, noticed some weird things and fixed it. Much happier with it now.
What I thought of while listening to Stereo Hearts by Gym Class Heroes.
The pose and cell shading were some of the biggest obstacles in this one. I ended up doing solid black lineart, then going in with a mask to create the cell-shading appearance. So far I just don't like doing lineart in Illustrator as much.
5 hours of work so far into this.
