Dewey's Bakery

None of his famous fish cakes made it into this illustration. Oh well- the appeal doesn't seem to be there with that one.

Anthropomorphic Animation

My semi-final anthropomorphic animation. Still needs a few lighting tweaks, but I'm pretty satisfied. I think the story got a lot more clear than where it was at before, which was something I struggled with.

We had to read Kafka's The Metamorphosis for literature class, and then draw a scene from it. I chose the scene where the cockroach gets apples chucked at him, because that is probably a similar reaction that I'd have to a giant cockroach in my house.

Derby Girl

I've been volunteering for the Minnesota Roller Girls this season and I love it so far. Hopefully someday I'll have some more time to get better at skating so I can tryout.

Love Birds

Dragons don't need campfires

lucky them.

I Scream

For my computer animation studio class I'm redoing a shot from an animated short, "I Scream", that was worked on the past few quarters.

Eh. 50-50 on this one. I need to experiment more with a line style that i like. but I like the background and the bubbles. Also, after hearing ILM talk about their mermaids for Pirates of the Caribbean, I got really excited to draw a scary amphibious-type mermaid. So I drew this. Failure.

Day 6: Favorite book character

It's totally not a movie yet so this counts. Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games. This is by far one of my favorite book series.

Adventure Time style self portrait

I love this show. I first saw the pilot back when I was at the workshop for my college and loved it.

Doing some sketch prompts for a dA group (not that I'm a hardcore dA member, but I like the excuse to draw).

This one is "robot in a dress".

Day 2: Favorite Animal

I don't really have a favorite animal. If I weren't going to be an animator, I probably would've studied zoology, so really I have about 50 favorite animals. But for now my favorite animal is the owl. The fancy kind. With the hat. And the Earl Gray tea.

Day 1: Draw Yourself

Funny how I draw myself all the time, but then when I'm prompted to do it, it seems impossible.

Got back from a multitude of traveling adventures. Last July I spent a few days in New York (my first trip there!) all by myself in order to attend the Pixar masterclass with Mattew Luhn and Andrew Gordon. It was a great experience; I learned a lot, especially when story creation was discussed. It's amazing how much thought goes into every little detail in all of the movies that Pixar does.

More recently I got back from Vancouver, B.C. I was attending Siggraph for the second time. Another great experience, and definitely different from last year's Siggraph. I would highly recommend going to this, even though it's pretty pricey for non-students. I always learn a ton, meet new peeps, and of course, bring home a walking teapot. It didn't hurt that Vancouver is a gorgeous city, much prettier than L.A. was. Some of the highlights were getting to see Pixar's La Luna before its public release, a storytelling with color class featuring Kung Fu Panda 2, and many good presentations from ILM.

So in the meantime while I wait to get back to school, I definitely have a lot to work on and think about. Internship stuff, getting a good website up and running, portfolio, etc. I'll try and keep this blog updated; I know i haven't been doing a very good job (if it helps I haven't really been doing much art, due to some recently discussed business).

I want to go to the beach. Murrr.

Pencil test of my shape animation from Acting for Animators. Idea was to animate a simple shape showing a change in emotion from sad to excited.

A WIP of my human heart model. Still have to tackle the beast of exporting a Mudbox file into Maya as a displacement map....

Couldn't resist doing this.

Took a break from Minecraft to bust this out. I just wanted to use a super limited color palette and doodle something quick.

I Scream

Titlecard for a short animation project I'm working on with a group at school.

A couple weeks ago I lost my little guinea pig Russel. I always think it's amazing how smart (I mean, not terribly smart, but suprisingly smart) these little guys are for just being rodents. Russel was a great companion and I will miss him a ton.

Deer Girl

Just finished this up- I was trying to work with using bolder color contrast, as well as working without solid outlines again. What's challenging for me is not smoothing all my colors out perfectly; sometimes a little painterly texture is good.

Child's Bedroom

Final render of my architectual interior (inorganic model) for my advanced modeling class. I really enjoyed this project because I got to make a ton of cute stuff to go into the room, and Max and I had fun drawing like kids. :)

redid my Toucan Slam with some new lineart.

Finished Anthropomorphic

So this is my "finished" anthropomorphic animation. I was fortunate enough to have an extension on it, but it is still not as perfect as I'd like it to be. However, I think I did a good job animating the marshmallow's extreme squash and stretch; he definitely has a little personality. :)

Working with using other brushes as textures. Also doing a great job drawing things not related to homework or actual commitments. ;)

Forgot about this project... oops.

This was my greeting assignment for intermediate 3D animation.

Sunday, January 2, 2011

So this was meant to be finished around Halloween (this was my costume plan) but I guess things have been a little hectic.

I'm totally ready to start a new year, less than a year to go at Ai. Looking forward to internships and all my advanced classes. :)
